Obituary of Charles G. Christie
Charles G. Christie, age 87, of Wyckoff, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, Suffern NY and proudly born in Brooklyn NY, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2020. Adored husband of the late Evelyn (nee Valianti). Cherished father of Donna Bredholt and her husband Peter of Brooklyn NY, Edward Christie and his wife Janet of Allendale and Carol Petitt and her husband Bill of Wyckoff. He is also survived by 5 adoring grandsons Christopher and Andrew Bredholt, Evan and Corey Petitt and Charles Christie. He was extremely proud of them all and never tired of praising their achievements.
Charles was born in Brooklyn NY in 1932 to the late Edward and Anna Christie both formerly of Norway. Charles was an only child but had numerous friends in the neighborhood who were like brothers to him and he kept in touch with them for the remainder of his life. As a kid he grew up playing stick ball, basketball and whatever game could be made up with a “spauldine”. Charles was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooklyn NY. Upon graduation from Ft. Hamilton High School, Charles was drafted into the Army and served at Ft. Dix NJ and Ft. Campbell KY where he became a member of the 101st Airborne Division. Charles was later sent to Germany where he enjoyed the remainder of his tour of duty. Charles was proud of his service to his country and would often talk about his days in the Army.
During his time in the service Charles married Evelyn whom he had met in Brooklyn and remained married to her for 62 good years until her passing in 2016. He earned his bachelors degree in chemistry at Brooklyn College. He joined Avon Products of Suffern NY, as a chemist, where he and Evelyn later moved and raised their children. When he earned his masters degree in chemistry at Fairleigh Dickenson University he became manager of Avon’s analytical Lab. Charles later switched gears and enjoyed a second career as a successful salesman for Perkin Elmer selling scientific analytical equipment.
He retired in the early 1990s and enjoyed many good years wintering in Ft. Myers Florida with his beloved Evelyn and her cousins Mickey and Mike with frequent visits from children and grandchildren. He was also an avid bridge player and a member of the Wyckoff Men’s Club. In addition, he enjoyed many trips with his reunion group, “Trinity and Friends” who consisted of his old pals from Brooklyn and their wives.
Charles had a very positive out look on life was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
