Aunt Dot was a special person to me. She was my father's sister. We often saw her at our house or my grandparents house growing up. She was family. We visited her a few times when she lived on Long Island with Uncle Stanley. Later after they moved to Florida and I had my own family we visited her there and also after Stanley passed. Although the miles between us were great, I tried to stay in touch by calling frequently. Dot was a caring and helpful person, whether it was teaching children in school, or later volunteering at the local food bank or hospice, or being active in her church. She always gave without being asked. That's just who she was. She was well liked by all who knew her. At 97, and the last surviving family member of that generation, I now feel that a certain link to the past is gone. The world may have changed in her lifetime and she may be gone now, but the lessons and values she showed us remain and are just as relevant today as they were then. Although she never asked, I know she now has her reward and her memory will live on in those she touched.

Aunt Dot, as we called her, was a kind, loving, and generous lady. Although she had no children of her own, she went out of her way to treat her nephews as if we were her own children. She loved to play the piano, and was pretty accomplished at it. She was teacher for a while, and loved working with children. As she got older, she volunteered her time to help a hospice organization. She grew up in the Rea Avenue Reformed Church (Hawthorne, N.J.) and was a member there until she moved out of the area. She was a skilled singer, and occasionally performed solo in that church. She loved to travel, and was able to see a lot of the world. She will much missed.
