Obituary of Kevin Martin Lyons

Kevin Martin Lyons age 65, nearly lifelong resident of Jersey City, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Born to Jeremiah and Renee (Nolan) Lyons, Kevin was predeceased by his loving parents and younger brother Michael. Kevin is survived by his loving sister, Maureen, his brother-in-law, Tony, (who could always make him laugh), his favorite niece Sabrina (affectionately known to him as Patreeta) and his beloved uncle, Monsignor Walter Nolan, who so often drove 4 hours roundtrip to spend time with him. Kevin was a fixture on Central Avenue and was known to all. He loved spending time on “the Avenue” and was often found at Blimpie’s and Gino’s Pizza. So many of the shopkeepers there looked after him and treated him with tremendous kindness and generosity. It was through these actions that you could see how Kevin’s big heart touched many people. Kevin was a devoted and affectionate son who adored his mother. He took great joy in buying flowers and cards to celebrate all her special days and events. Kevin had an infectious laugh and great exuberance for holidays and family gatherings. He loved his time with his Nana who would often take him to the opera, circus and theater. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his Pop Pop. He truly loved his independence and was often seen biking around the streets of the Heights. He was a lifelong Giants and Yankees fan who could always be found watching the game on TV with his dad. Kevin was a generous, thoughtful person with a deep faith in God. He was touched by the concerns of others, and after finding out you were upset about something, he would often say with sweet sincerity, “I’ll be praying for you.” He will be greatly missed, and our hope is that this beautiful soul is now resting in peace with his loved ones, in Heaven, where he so deservedly belongs. We know he will undoubtedly still be praying for us all. Due to COVID-19, Kevin’s family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Once a date has been decided, the website will be updated. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Special Olympics on his behalf would be a lovely gesture that would be greatly appreciated.
