Obituary of Frances B. Petermann
Frances Mary Burke Petermann, 94, of Mahwah, New Jersey, passed away on April 24, 2020 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
A private graveside service will be held at George Washington Memorial Cemetery on April 30, 2020 with Father Gonzalo of St. Mary’s Church of Pompton Lakes officiating. A memorial service and celebration of Frances’s life will be held on a future date. Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff, New Jersey will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Frances was born in Brooklyn, New York to Frances Mooney Burke and Charles Francis Burke on November 11, 1925. She went to high school at St. Cecilia’s in Englewood, New Jersey and graduated in 1943. She went on to earn a degree in Social Work in 1947 from Mount St Vincent College in Riverdale, New York.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Frances Petermann Kummerfeldt of Pompton Lakes, and her spouse Michael; daughter Jennifer Petermann of Mahwah. Grandchildren Megan Faro and her spouse Michael, Erin Kummerfeldt, Peter Kummerfeldt, David Petermann and Sarah Anderson. Frances is also survived by her great-grandsons: Jason, Josias, and Jonah Carbon. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Charles Thomas Petermann.
Frances spent her days as a loving wife to her husband and mother to her daughters. She also spent time as a nursery school aid for many years. She had been a member of the Mahwah Women’s Club for many years. She was an active member of several bridge groups and enjoyed spending her time playing bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed spending time at the library and reading books, while also making sure she never missed an episode of Jeopardy.
