SINKS GROVE, WV --- Helen Moezelaar, aged 105, died peacefully at the Springfield Center, Lindside, WV, on February 1, 2020. She was born Helen Van der Veer on May 28, 1914, in Paterson, NJ, and came of age during the Great Depression. She supported her family for several years on her $14 weekly wage at Prudential Life Insurance Company. She married Wilbert Moezelaar in 1937 and was a homemaker in the ensuing years, raising three children and becoming an accomplished cook, baker and seamstress. Her long, healthy and varied life included homes and friends in Prospect Park, NJ, Miami Lakes, FL, and West Milford, NJ, before coming to Monroe County in 2006 to live with her daughter, Judith, at Redwing Farm, Sinks Grove. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Martin, her mother, Della, and brothers Pete, William and Fred, husband Bill, grand-daughter Cheryl, and many dear friends. Surviving are her son, David, and his wife, Helena (Wayne, NJ), daughters Judith Bair (Sinks Grove, WV) and Mardelle Pilaar and her husband, Casper (Chestertown, MD), grandchildren Lorne Bair and wife Lee Ann Dransfield, Jonathan Bair and wife Keveney Barley , Kevin Moezelaar and wife Caroline, William Moezelaar and wife Kerri, Joelyn Mayo and husband Ryan, and Eric Pilaar and wife Mary. She has eleven great grandchildren: Wyatt and Casey Bair, Marielle, Norah and Evelyn Mayo, Maggie, Johanna and Audrey Pilaar, Sabina, Conor and Liam Moezelaar. Helen will be remembered by some in Monroe County as an astute bridge player, even into her 90s. Mention and thanks go to Laurie Ardison and Tanya Payne for the many years of care they provided to Helen in her home in Sinks Grove, and to the staffs of Country View Assisted Living and the Springfield Center for their careful attention during her final years. Helen will be buried in her family plot in New Jersey, finally “going home to Mom.” Those wishing to send the Family online condolences or sign the online guestbook may do so by visiting www.groves-mann.com Arrangements by Groves-Mann Funeral Home, Union, WV and Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff in New Jersey.
