Bjefke Slump

Obituary of Bjefke Slump

After a long struggle with breathing issues, Bjefke Slump passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28th in her home, surrounded by family.

Bjefke Johanna Bonnema was born on May 29th, 1937, along with her twin brother Pieter in Overveen, the Netherlands. They were born to Johanna and Meindert Bonnema, joining their two older brothers Dick and Gerben with whom they shared full and sometimes challenging younger years. After meeting the love of her life William, she got married in her new home of Glen Rock, New Jersey. From that moment, she became Bjefke Slump, but also a mother and a Beppe. In their 56 year-long marriage, Bill and Bjefke built their lives and homes both in Glen Rock and in Hemrik, the Netherlands, where they shared the joys of life and each other with their friends, children, their children’s spouses, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Bjefke thrived in her beautiful friendships spanning dozens of years and in keeping in touch with her network of loved ones around the world; from South Africa to Australia, Holland, Canada, South America and Spain. Throughout her physical struggles and towards the end of her life, with the support of William’s incredible love, strength, and care she passed away peacefully in her own home. Bjefke is survived by William and the family they have grown and nourished together: JoAnn and Todd Cobbs, Roelof Slump, Kate Slump, Mary Jane van Zeijts, Johannes van Zeijts, Robert Ballesteros, Annelies and Steven Baker and Pieter and Maria Angelica Slump. Her beloved grandchildren are Lacey, William, Willem, Anna, Mary Grace, Erik, Caroline, Pieter, Jacob, Steven, Zachary, Marco, Simon and Faith.

The Slump family will receive friends and family for a service of remembrance at the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to the American Lung Association, 1031 Route 22, Suite 203, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 (https://action.lung.org/site/TR/Events/General?pg=fund&fr_id=1080&pxfid=153836)
