Obituary of John F. Tobin

Jack Tobin passed away peacefully on February 4, 2019 at the age of 87. Born in Hartford, CT, he later lived in Wyckoff before moving to Paterson, NJ, where he attended Central High School. Jack proudly served in the U.S Marine Corps reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant while stationed in Korea during the war.  In 1960, Jack moved to Ringwood with then wife Margaret where they raised five children.  An active member of the community and parishioner of St. Catherine's R.C. Church, Jack lived in Ringwood until his death.  In 1955, Jack joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 325 (later 124) in Paterson, NJ.  After 22 years working "with the tools" as a carpenter, Jack was elected Business Agent and was appointed to the executive committee of the NJ State Council of Carpenters.  Jack retired from the Union in 1994 and enjoyed his retirement with his loving wife Cathy, traveling and relaxing at their camp in Lake Sacandaga.

Jack was proud of his Irish heritage, was quick of wit, a brilliant writer, and he loved to sing which he did so beautifully.  Above all, Jack adored his family. Jack is predeceased by his parents Michael and Rose, brothers: Michael Tobin, Edward Tobin and his sister Geraldine Lawliss. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Catherine; four daughters: Susan T. Varca, her husband John; Laura T. Wallace, her husband Gregg; Patty Tobin; Jennifer T. Mirto, her husband Matt; and son John “Jack” F. Tobin, Jr., and his wife Mary, and three step-children: Michael C. DeCarlo, Edward J. DeCarlo and Diane M.
