Elmer White

Obituary of Elmer J. White

Elmer J. White, 94, of Pompton Lakes, NJ, passed peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 29, 2018. Born and raised in Paterson, Elmer lived in Midland Park for 38 years before moving to Pompton Lakes 15 years ago.

Elmer was a decorated World War II veteran who served in Patton's 3rd Army in Scotland, England, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. When he returned home from the war, he was a Paterson Fireman for one year and then he joined the Paterson Police Department, where he became a Forensic Detective and served for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (nee Kutzleb); two daughters, Nancy Rickenberg (Jim) of HoHoKus, NJ and Kristy Hildebrand (Mark) of Ramsey, NJ; three grandchildren, Kevin Rickenberg, Katy Hildebrand and Aidan Hildebrand; and sister, Helen Konight of Lincoln Park, NJ. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Elmer enjoyed vacations in Hilton Head, SC and annual trips to a family home in Cape Cod, MA, but his greatest happiness in life came from spending time with his family.

A friend to every animal he met – storing treats under his pillow helped :) – we ask that donations in Elmer's memory be made to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. (www.rbari.org) in lieu of flowers.
