Obituary of Joan Powers

Joan Powers, 84, of Midland Park, died on Thursday, August 30, 2018.  Born and raised in Jersey City, she has lived in Midland Park for 55 years.

Joan was an assistant annuity processor for Metropolitan Life Insurance in New York retiring in 1996, and then became a cafeteria worker for the Wyckoff Board of Education in Eisenhower School.

Joan is survived by her three loving children: Kathryn Healy and her husband Kevin of Ringwood, Joan McDonagh and her husband Stephen of Ringwood and John J. Powers Jr. of Midland Park.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jessica and Aspen Healy, Padraig, Cecilia, Nora and Rory McDonagh and Brodie Powers, as well as her sister Barbara Ebert and her brother James Dorsey of Myrtle Beach, SC.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, John J. Powers, Sr. in 2009 and her brother Thomas Dorsey.

Visiting hours are Tuesday 4 - 8 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home,  www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10:00 am at the Church of the Nativity, 340 Prospect St., Midland Park, NJ.  Interment will follow at the St. Luke’s Cemetery in Ho-Ho-Kus.
