Obituary of John F. Locascio

John F. Locascio passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the age of 78. He was raised in Garfield, NJ by his Sicilian parents, James Locascio and Frances Maida.  Deciding to see the world, John joined the Air Force after graduation from Garfield High School.  He served in France as engineer for the Armed Forces Network.  However, John decided to return to NJ where he worked as a credit manager for various companies. Being a man who loved numbers, he decided to open his own tax practice in Glen Rock, NJ in 1993. For 25 years John worked at something he loved helping both family and friends.  John was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Ridgewood; an avid golfer, an intense bowler with two 300 games; an umpire and referee for multiple sports and belonged to the various County Umpires Association and the National Taxpayers Association. John was admired for his intellect, kindness, caring nature, trustworthiness and wonderful sense of humor. John is survived by his wife of 24 years and best friend of 42 years Valerie M. Oakes-Locascio and his beloved dog, Sandy.  

He loved his extended family and was especially devoted to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. John is survived by his children: Patricia A. Miller, her husband, David, John M. Locascio, his wife, Janice, Wayne E. Smith, James J. Locascio, J. Michael Oakes, his wife Erin, Kelly M. Oakes, Sean R. Oakes, and his wife, Amy.

Loving grandfather to Nicole Miller, Adam Miller, John F. Locascio, Kasey Oakes, Kyle Oakes, Ryan Oakes, Mallory Oakes, Mickey Oakes, Crystal Smith, Christina Smith, Keith Jobbers, Athena Jobbers-Joye, her husband, Mike, and Daniel Esposito; along with 8 great grandchildren.  He is predeceased by his two daughters Ann Esposito; Ellen Jobbers; a grandson Matthew Miller, and a brother Anthony J. Locascio.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday  at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1 Passaic St., Ridgewood, NJ. Interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery, 90 Chapel Road, Mahwah, NJ.
