Obituary of Michael E. Howland

Michael Howland, 70, of Franklin Lakes, died peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by his family.  Michael was born in Long Branch, NJ and raised in Rumson.  He graduated Rumson Fair Haven High School (‘65) and went on to study Economics at Lafayette College (‘69), later receiving an MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University (’71). Michael lived in Montclair and Glen Ridge prior to moving to Franklin Lakes 19 years ago. His career in Consumer Products Marketing included working for Proctor and Gamble, Nabisco and C.F. Mueller.  Michael continued his career as a Marketing College Professor at Ramapo College in Mahwah. He was a member of the Glen Ridge Country Club, past president of the Glen Ridge Kiwanis Club and served on the Glen Ridge Board of Education. Michael also was a member of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat Club and volunteered at the Franklin Lakes Public Library. He was a faithful parishioner of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Franklin Lakes where he served as a Sunday usher. Surviving is his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia (née Artelli), his devoted sons, David, William (wife Suzanne), and Andrew and his grandchildren, Addison and Anna.  Michael also leaves his mother, Edna Howland and his special cousins, Jack Mulvihill, Scott Bradley, Rich Bradley and Donna Hubbard Lamoureaux, and the Artelli family.  Michael was pre-deceased by his father Jesse E. Howland (‘07) and his sister Patte (’84).

The Howland family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, 2018, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 27, 10:00 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 787 Franklin Lakes Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Red Bank, NJ.  Memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s name to Community Access Unlimited, 80 W Grand St, Elizabeth, NJ 07202 (www.caunj.org), an organization that supports the mentally disabled.
