Obituary of Jacqueline C. Zuidema

Zuidema, Jacqueline C. “Jackie”(nee Downey) age 78, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017.  Born in Belfast, Ireland, Jackie came to the United States at the age of 13 settling with her family in Paterson. She was a resident of Hawthorne for over 50 years before moving to Wyckoff. Jackie and her late husband Bob were founding members of Tomorrows Children’s Fund in Hackensack. Jackie enjoyed her time volunteering for Ditto, an upscale resale store in North Haledon.

She was a member of the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff where she also attended their Coffee Break ministry. Surviving are her 4 devoted daughters, Beth and her husband Peter Hagedoorn, Bonnie Perrotta, Brenda and her husband Tim Strasser and Barbie and her husband John Resch.  Jackie also leaves her 12 adoring grandchildren, Brian, Kimberly (Michael), Nicole, Richard, Gregory (Brooke), Justin (Brianne), Zachary (Normaida), Danielle, Jonathan, Jacqueline, Gabrielle and Brayden and her great grandchildren, Zachary, Briella, Isaac and Owen. She is also survived by her brother Hugh Downey.  Jackie was pre-deceased by her husband Robert J. Zuidema in 2008 and her daughter Brett in 1989. The Zuidema family will receive friends on Tuesday 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday 10:30 AM followed by interment in the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers: memorial contributions in Jackie’s name may be made to Tomorrows Children’s Fund, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
