Bob was well named, as DeGroote means "great" in Flemish. He made the world a better place, and he will be missed by anyone who had any contact with him. Our heart goes out to Debbie and Christien...I am happy that I knew him...What a privilege....

Our sincere condolences to Dr. DeGroote's family. He was truly a wonderful man. He did surgery on my Father and was there at any time for me and my family throughout the whole thing. He took the time to sit with me and explain everything thoroughly, at a time when my family and I were very frightened and not quite sure what to expect. He was very kind and never made us feel like we were bothering him with questions. My husband works at the hospital and always spoke very highly of Dr. DeGroote. He was a good man, and we were very lucky to have known him and have him take care of my dad. He will be missed.

I've had the great honor to know and work with Bob since his residency days at HUMC. He was a most caring, compassionate, friendly, fun man and a confident and superb surgeon. He never failed to help anyone who asked, and did so for me personally at a time of great need. His loss, while so difficult for the family that was so dear to him, has such a wide impact on a vast number of his friends and patients. He touched many with his Great Soul, and while we mourn his passing, we have a special place in our Hearts that leaves a warmth there for having known him. I will miss him greatly.

I am so VERY sad to hear of such a GREAT loss!!! Just wanted to tell you a little story about Dr. DeGroote, (sure you have Many of the the same, but do need to share a "gift of life' story. I was on the brink of death in 2003, when Dr. DeGroote performed emergency surgery, of which truly saved my life. Me and my family will treasure the skills, expertise, and KIND nature of knowing such a GREAT physician. We are saying many prayers for him and his family at this very difficult time. It was a true honor,and privlidge to have been lucky enough to have DR. Degroote save my life!!! Don't know what I will do without him!!! God Bless!

Dear DeGroote Family, Dr. DeGroote has a very special place in our hearts, he was a very caring man and best practicing physician (both professionally & bed side manners) we have ever known. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire DeGroote family, friends and of course, his medical colleagues, since everyone has lost a very passionate physician This is our loss as well and will be sorely missed.
