Obituary of Robert Evans
Evans, Robert B., age 90, of Glen Rock died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Born in Glen Rock, he was a lifelong resident. Robert earned his B.S. in sanitary engineering from Lehigh University and his M.S. in civil engineering from New York University. During WW II he served on the Army Corp of Engineers and later attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. He worked for his father Frank Evans, Glen Rock's Borough Engineer. Then he become chief engineer for Ford, Bacon and Davis and later was the project manager for Sanderson and Porter, both in New York. He retired from the U.S. EPA in 1987. An active member of the Community Church of Glen Rock, he taught Sunday School and was president of the Men's Club. He was also a member of the Board of Health in Glen Rock and the Glen Rock Historical Society. He was the loving father of Glenn L. Evans of West Bath, Maine, Bronwen Evans of Glen Rock and Megan E. King of Brookline, NH. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Morgana, Hilary, Dylan, Rachel and Ethan. He was predeceased by his wife Jean E. Evans in 2004. Visiting will be Friday, March 19, from 7-9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 am at Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood followed by a Celebration of Robert's life at 11 am at the Community Church of Glen Rock, 354 Rock Road, Glen Rock, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Community Church of Glen Rock or Lehigh University, c/o Lehigh University Development Office, 622 Brodhead Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18015 would be appreciated.
