Obituary of Edmund Pender

Pender, Edmund L. age 88, of Windham, NH and formerly of Salem, NH and Waldwick, NJ, died December 6, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH, following a brief illness. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, son of the late David F. and Margaret (Shannon) Pender, he was raised in Perth Amboy and Woodbridge, NJ. He served as a Technical Sgt. in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during W.W.II and saw action in England, France and Luxembourg as a member of the 90th General Hospital. He was a recipient of the European Theatre Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Pender graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and later received his MBA from Rutgers University. A Certified Public Accountant, he first worked as a partner in the firm of G.H. Kinglsey & Company in Manhattan, and later was a member of Pender and Dunleavy of Englewood Cliffs, NJ and later founded Edmund L. Pender, CPA with offices in Englewood Cliffs. Mr. Pender previously served as a County Committee Member of Bergen County and also as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. An active member of St Luke's Catholic Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, where he served as head usher and as a volunteer on numerous committees, he also was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed tennis. A consummate gentleman and member of the National and New Jersey Association of Certified Public Accountants, he was very devoted to his wife, his family, his church and his career. Mr. Pender was a resident of Salem, NH for four years before moving to Windham in 2007, and was presently a member of St. Matthew's Parish of Windham. The husband of the late Mary P. (Kingsley) Pender and father of the late Carol F. Pender, and father-in-law of the late Frederick Eid, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lee and Russell Greaves of Spofford, NH, Kathleen A. Eid of Danville, NH, Joan K. and Alfred Lofgren of Kittery Point, ME, and Laurie J. and Richard Sweetser of Windham, NH, a brother Thomas F. Pender of Prescott,AZ, also nine grandchildren and three great-grand-daughters. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 10a.m. in St. Luke's Church, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, with burial to follow in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ.
