Obituary of Achilles Georgeou

GEORGEOU, Achilles E., age 100, of Closter, NJ died on Saturday, November 15, 2008. Born in Kastoria, Greece, in 1908, Achilles immigrated to the United States in 1930. He settled in New York City where he met and married his wife of 69 years, Angela, originally from Volos, Greece. He later moved to Closter where he had lived for 56 years. Achilles worked for over 65 years in the fur industry in New York City as a manufacturer/retailer, retiring in 1997. He was a parishioner and founding member of the St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly, NJ. Surviving along with his wife Angela are three loving daughters, Helen Nonas, wife of the late Paul Nonas, of Mahwah, NJ, Alexandra Kleiner and her husband Edmund of Totowa, NJ and Athena Papayani and her husband John of Great River, NY. He is also survived by 10 devoted grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ (www.vpfh.com). Funeral service will be Wednesday, 11:00 am at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Ave., Wyckoff.
