Obituary of Richard Van Harken

VAN HARKEN, Richard, age 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 with his family by his side. Born in Paterson, he lived in Franklin Lakes for many years before recently moving to North Haledon. Richard was owner of Van Harken Builders of Franklin Lakes and co-owner of Waterfall Village Apartments in Bloomingdale. He was a member of Bridgeway Community Church where he was a very active member and he worked on the board of directors of the Christian Health Care Center. Rich served the United States in the National Guard. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Joan, to whom he was married for 43 years, his son Richard S. and wife Cindy of North Haledon, his daughter Allison Westra and husband Tim of Franklin Lakes and his nine dear grandchildren, T.J., Kayla, Andy, Sam, Richard, Brittany, Ross, Brent, and Kaitlyn. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Foster and brother Don Van Harken, both of North Haledon. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (www.vpfh.com) 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. A funeral service celebrating Rich's entry into eternal life will take place on Monday, 10:00 AM at the Bridgeway Community Church, 381 Haledon Ave. Haledon. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
