Obituary of Andrew Popjes

Popjes, Andrew "Andy" age 73 of Cape Carteret, NC died Friday, October 31, 2008. Born in Midland Park he was a resident of North Haledon before moving to North Carolina in 1997. He was a US Army veteran who served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Before his retirement, Andy was a shipping and receiving clerk for Wallace Ennes of Franklin Lakes for 5 years and prior worked as a paint sprayer for ITT Marlow Pumps of Midland Park. He was a former member of the Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park, where he served as an Elder and Deacon, and currently was a member and Elder of the Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church, Cape Carteret, NC. He was a former member of the Kiwanis International of Paramus. He is survived by his wife Ann (nee Marsh) Popjes of Cape Carteret, NC, daughter, Lauri de Waal Malefyt and her husband Tom of Wantage, NJ, son, Craig Popjes and his wife Rae of Oakland, NJ, two step daughters; Leigh Robertson of Mt. Airy, NC and Cathy Smith and her husband Randy of King, NC and a step son, Thomas Jenkins and his wife Lacy of Swansboro, NC. His brothers Henry Popjes and his wife Miriam of Grandville, MI and Ronald Popjes and his wife Rita of Lincoln Park, NJ. His sister in law, Debbie Robertson and her husband Alan of Mt. Airy, NC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jackie and Ashley Popjes, Courtney and Chelsea de Waal Malfyt, Cody and Casey Smith and Ben and Ingle Jenkins and one great granddaughter, Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Annamae (nee Molenstra) Popjes in 2000. Visiting Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.
